Today we continue with our Chakra Series with our 5thChakra, which is located at the throat. In Sanskrit this chakra is referred to as the “Vishuddha” which means “Purification.” When working with this chakra we are looking to purify our intention in regard to speech and communication. We learn to choose words that bring value and meaning, not just empty chit chat. To reach a pure form of truthful communication, we must first work our way through the previous four chakras, so our throat chakra can fully open, and we are free to speak to productively express ourselves. This chakra is all about personal expression combined with responsibility.

How does your Throat Chakra Spin?
What is the current status of your throat chakra? Is it too open? Too closed? Or is it spinning in harmony? Here are the symptoms of each….
Too Open- If your chakra spins too fast you may be over-talkative, dogmatic, self-righteous, or arrogant
Blocked or closed- If your chakra spins sluggishly or not at all you may find yourself holding back from self expression, unreliable, or holding inconsistent views.
A Balanced Chakra- which spins at the correct speed will make one a good communicator, contented, easy to meditate, and artistically inspired.
A word about Archetypes….
The two archetypes associated with the throat chakra are the communicator and the masked self. When our throat chakra is out of balance one “masks” their true self. They are incapable of openly and honestly expressing themselves. In contrast the balanced individual will be excellent communicators. They “walk their talk” and they know how to express themselves with amazing clarity and purpose.

This week in our Chakra Series, we will be discussing the svadhisthana chakra, or sacral chakra. If you missed our first post on the 1stchakra or root chakra, please go read it now here. In the root chakra post I suggest a great book to start with.
In Sanskrit the meaning of svadhisthana translates to “sweetness” and the associations with this chakra correlate with all the things in life that make it “sweet” like pleasure, sexuality, movement, nurturing, an change. By working with your sacral chakra on a regular basis, you will help those issues in your life pertaining to emotional, sexual, and creative balance.
The Sacral Chakra (2ndchakra)…The Basics
Location: between naval and genitals.
Name and meaning: Svadhisthana/ sweetness

Main issue: Emotional balance/Sexuality/ creativity
Glandular connection: Ovaries/testes
Associated body parts: sex organs, bladder, prostate, womb
Animals and Archtypes: Fishtailed alligator, Sovereign/martyr
Physical dysfunctions: impotence, frigidity, bladder and prostate problems, lower back pain
Emotional dysfunctions: unbalanced sex drive, emotional instability, feelings of isolation
Sacramental association: communion
Foods: liquids
Developmental age/life lesson: 8-14 years. Challenging motivations based on social conditioning
HOW DOES YOUR SACRAL CHAKRA SPIN?….
The goals of emotional stability, creative expression, and pleasure all relate to the sacral chakra (2ndchakra) This chakra is continuing on from the base or root chakra (each chakra builds on the one before it) The archetypes of this chakra are the sovereign and martyr, which relate to abundance and how much we feel that we believe we deserve to enjoy in life. They are associated with the two polarities of pleasure and fulfillment, as well as suffering and sacrifice. So how is your sacral chakra currently spinning? Here is how you can tell;
Chakra is too open (spins to fast)- emotionally unbalanced, a fantasist, manipulative, sexually addictive.
Chakra is too closed or blocked (spins sluggishly or not at all)- over sensitive, hard on him/or herself, feels guilty for no reason, frigid or impotent.
Chakra is balanced (spins and correct speed)- trusting, expressive, attuned to his/her own feelings, creative.
When a person’s sacral chakra is balanced, you will find these individuals take on a very charismatic and personality, and you enjoy being around them! In contrast when someone has a sacral block, it can be draining associating with them, and they tend to love to push guilt over on everyone else, because they themselves are feeling it intensely. The balanced person will see the positive opportunities to every situation, and even when things fail, learn from it, and move on, or try again a new way. They take the good with the bad and grow, instead of wallowing in self pity and defeat.
If you would like to read more about this subject, I suggest starting with this book. If anyone else has any good book suggestions, please don’t hesitate to comment below! I would love to check them out! Sharing is caring!
I hope you found this post informative, and that you consider giving chakra work a try! Our next post will cover the solar plexus chakra.
