Black Velvet in the Rain
Black Velvet in the Rain….
“The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach.”-Henry Beston
Handmade black velvet duster…perfect for the free spirited woman
There is nothing like a good rainy day sky on the day of a photo shoot. The cloud cover acts as a giant soft box, gently diffusing the sunlight, which makes for beautiful smooth and glowing skin. We were lucky on the day of this shoot, as the weather was perfectly suited for what we wanted to create. Wearing black velvet in the rain…it’s nothing short of magical.
The design for this black velvet duster is actually a test sample of something I want to possibly add to our online shop inventory. This particular duster is made from a stretch velvet. It was not the easiest fabric to sew with…it is quite tricky. It constantly wants to shift and slip…. It’s like it has a mind of its own.
After working with it on this design, I have found that I would like to add the corseting to the front as well as the back. I would also like to try making this in a non stretch velvet, and possibly a cotton, rayon, or silk fabric as well. What would you like to see? Would you wear a garment like this?
