La Dame Blanche

The mystery and lore that surrounds “La Dame Blanche” or “White Lady” is vast in its depiction and origin. From Eastern and Western Europe, to the Americas, every country has folklore surrounding this supernatural woman/spirit. In some countries she is viewed as a witch or sorceress, and in others she is seen as a ghost or spirit (several of which are located here where we reside!) She may described as being of good character, helping and healing those who are in need, or bad, forcing those who come across her path to bend to her will. If the passerby would not comply with what she asked of them (such as dance or crawl on their knees to her) they would suffer her punishment carried out by her minions/helpers (hobgoblins, owls, cats, and those creatures who helped her) Still some see her as a healer, who lovingly and willingly helps those in time of need.

In Current Popular Culture

“La Dame Blanche” has been depicted in popular culture over the years. The most current, and positive depiction of her happens to be our favorite. Claire Fraser from the books/tv series Outlander is referred to as “La Dame Blanche”because of her vast knowledge of herbal medicines, and healing arts. She cures the ill, and eases pain of their suffering with her “otherworldly” skills, and kind bedside manner. She is strong, highly intelligent, powerful, gentle, and loving. It is from this more positive description in which we draw our inspiration for the styling of this dress.

These photos were shot in an area steeped in lore and spirit sightings, with “white lady” sightings being some of them. We found the landscape a perfect setting for our photos, and the lore surrounding the area a crowning bonus.
